The everyday, simple acts that show great love.

I have been at St. Alban’s since the 1980’s and I have been working with the Wednesday student lunches since 2007.
Today's devotional is based on:
"So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done for you."
John 13:14–15
"I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." John 13:34
Devotional
Jesus showed humility and love by washing the disciples feet, foreshadowing his ultimate humility and love for us in his crucifixion on the cross for our sins. He gave the example in a small, humble, and unexpected act.
We often think in terms of big, grand gestures of kindness and charity but it is the everyday, simple acts that show great love for each other. Small acts such as taking food to a family, rides to church and appointments, a card, student meals and activities, a phone call checking on a person who is having a rough time, and most of all really listening to someone and acknowledging them.
We don’t always know what is going on in other people’s lives and we don’t always know what a small act of kindness may mean to someone. I know that I have been on the receiving end of kind gestures that have kept me going in hard times. I have witnessed countless acts of love for your neighbor at St. Alban’s and I am grateful for the example these acts of washing other people’s feet have given me.
