Reflect, talk to God and think about what he has done for us.

I have been coming to St. Albans for almost three years and I am a part of the student ministry!
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless. And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you exceedingly numerous.” Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. And I will give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land where you are now an alien, all the land of Canaan, for a perpetual holding; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17:1–8
Devotional
In Genesis 17 we learn of promises that God has made to Abraham. In their conversation he also asks that Abraham walk before him and be blameless. God by asking this begins a relationship with Abraham as he wants to do with all of us. To believe in God’s promises takes a lot of trust and the ability to surrender, even for Abraham who has a conversation directly with God. However, everyday we can also make the choice to have conversations with God. In these conversations we are actively choosing to trust God and his plan. All he asks in return is for us to follow and trust him and what he has in store for us.
Today what we need and want from God varies from what Abraham needed, even individually our needs are different from each other, but what God asks of us is the same. Ultimately he wants a relationship with us and to be there for us always. Lent for me is a time to reflect on my relationship with God and how faith can lead me in my life at the time. This passage reminds us to reflect, talk to God and think about what he has done for us and what he can do for us. In doing so, we can find peace, comfort and gratitude for the blessings that often hide in plain sight.
