Verses Central to My Thoughts:

All shall turn from their evil ways and from the violence that is in their hands. Who knows? God may relent and change his mind; he may turn from his fierce anger, so that we do not perish."

When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it. Jonah 3:9-10

Devotional

God forgives us even if we are unworthy of forgiveness, even if our sin is worthy of death..  This is because God’s love for us is infinite.  As John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he sent His only son, that whomsoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” Forgiveness, however, is not automatic, it requires us to repent.   In our own lives, sometimes it is hard to say I am sorry and sometimes it is hard to forgive someone else.

But, how many times are we to forgive if we are wronged?  As Jesus says, in Matthew 18:22, “70 times 7 times” or every time we are wronged we should forgive.  In this way, God and others can forgive us every time we do wrong.  Therefore, both repentance and forgiveness are necessary for love--necessary for our love for others, their love for us, and God’s love for us all.  For it is “Not that we loved God, but that He loved us (I John 4:10).”  God loved us first and this love needs to be passed on to others.

Remember, although we are not worthy, God forgives us and He loves us and as Jesus says. “Go and do the same to others (Luke 10:37).”
